COLIN WILSON, from Edinburgh, plays bass with a young ceilidh band Annasach - it means ''unconventional'' in Gaelic. The group wanted to publicise themselves and reckoned putting their details on the Internet might generate some interest.

Their website allows people to hear snippets of them playing, and within days bookings started to come in.

They included an e-mail from a man from Tain who wondered if they could play at his wedding. It meant a bit of travelling, but Colin didn't think that would be too much of a problem. But although the groom was from Tain, the bride wasn't - she was French and the wedding was in Courtalain, two hours south of Paris. So Colin and the band found themselves playing in the former fencing hall of an 18th century chateau! It was a glittering occasion, with a top Paris chef, designer dresses everywhere and guests from 13 countries around the world. Annasach ended up playing until four in the morning, and had a whale of a time.
